Kuala Lumpur Stopover

3 Jul 2019

After a late night flight out of Brisbane direct to Kuala Lumpur on Malaysian Airlines we had organised a private transfer from the airport to our hotel.  Kuala Lumpur airport is approx. an hours drive from the city centre, a transfer is a stress free option especially when travelling with kids, strollers and backpacks.

Our accommodation in a family suite at the Park Royal Kuala Lumpur was stunning and in a brilliant location for exploring the city on foot.  Surrounded by malls, restaurants and attractions.  Lot10 Shopping mall is more high end shopping stores but it is also the start/end point for the hop on/hop off bus.  This bus takes you to all the attractions within KL city centre such as Chinatown, Lake Gardens, Royal Palace and Merdeka Square.

No visit to KL is complete without a visit to the Petronas Towers.  You can get a daily pass for around RM10 allowing you to visit the Skybridge or for about 4 x the price you can go all the way to the top of the buildings.  Shopping in KL is also worthwhile with clothing and shoes a fraction of the price you pay in NZ.  Some of the most popular malls are Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, Lot10 and Berjaya Times Square.

Nightlife on the streets felt very safe with young children in tow.  Lots of street performers, musicians, snake handlers, markets and unique knick knacks - bargains and fun experiences to be had at every turn.

If you have more than a couple of days to fill in, then there are more options out of KL such as the Batu Caves and some of the beautiful beach locations like Langkawi and Penang.  For more of a dive or snorkel experience then a better option would be Lang Tengah, Tenggol or Redang.
